Read Matthew 19-21

Highlight: Matthew 19:14-15

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.

I see these verses as Jesus responding to his disciples, who tried to stop parents from taking children to Jesus to bless them, as children died young. I see Jesus saying to disciples, “Stop; let the children come to me. Do not stop them. They come to me, powerless and weak, sickly, offering nothing but innocence.” I could picture that they need his loving arm around them; they need his blessings and prayers to make it in a hard and sinful world.

We too can come to him for blessing. We need to come empty of self, powerless, humble like a small child. That’s how we are to come to Jesus and be in his kingdom.

Dear Lord, help me always to come to you as your child, so that everything I do comes from you. Let me be deeply aware of your presence and your love. Help me grow to trust you more. Amen.
