…who knoweth whether thou are come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Persecution, hatred, anger, resistance, prejudices, all working in this world against God and His people. King Ahasuerus of the Medes and Persians made a decree to rid his kingdom of the Jews. Ester was chosen to be his Queen, but she was a Jew. Her uncle Mordecai asked her to do something which was pretty risky – to go unbidden to the king and plead for her people. Needless to say Esther was reluctant, but no one else was able to make that appeal. A lot was at stake, even her life, but her life would have been forfeit anyway.
We don’t know all the intricacies of God’s will if He doesn’t tell us. We can only do what the Holy Spirit prompts us, and it then is up to us to obey. But that prompting can come from a variety of sources, sometimes it is that still small voice that only you can determine it’s God, sometimes it’s in reading the Word and a revelation will jump off the page, sometimes it’s in the friends, counselors, or even a stranger who will bring that point to us. God doesn’t leave us alone, but places us in relationships not only with Himself, but with others who can at times see more clearly than we can.
What gifts, talents, specialties do you have which are waiting to blossom into fruitfulness? Do you have a calling, urging, to get involved with someone or something? God has imparted in us, each one of us, those gifts which He knows we can use to further His Kingdom. He has planted the seed, it has been watered by the Word, and it’s ready to sprout. We may not know if it’s the right time or not, the right place or not, but if we, in faith, allow God to open and/or close the door of opportunity, then we are being directed by Him. There may be no one else who has the same connections, positions, or skills you do. You may be the only person in someone life they will be able to listen to. As Mordecai said to Esther: “who knows if you are here just for a time like this?”
Jesus, I know you have something for me to do for You. I want to be able to serve you in what you want me to do. Make it clear in my spirit the things you have for me. Cleanse my mind and heart of doubts, fears, and anxieties. I want to hear with clear ears, and use the gifts, talents, and influence you’ve put in me. Give me the strength and ability to stand for righteousness. Give me a compassionate heart and an understanding and patient spirit. Let me walk in obedience and joy in knowing I am being used by You. AMEN
