Isaiah 40:25-26

25 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

What a rhetorical question – to whom will you compare me? There is no answer, because God has no comparison, no competition as Creator of the world. God has no equal, and we who will look up to the skies will know that to be true. We cannot come up with another answer as to how the world began. Can we really believe that all we see was brought forth by a random occurrence, without an intelligent design from God?

No only has God acted with intention, God has also acted with care. God brought forth each of the heavenly bodies, calling them by name. Even more, because of God’s power and strength, not one has gone missing. It is not as if somehow God lost track of one or two or overlooked a portion of God’s creation. Each bright and blazing star as well as each infinitesimal passing meteorite has been accounted for. And as this is true for the heavenly bodies, so it is true for all life here on this earth.

You will never go missing in God’s eyes. God values you, not because of your position or importance, your status or popularity, but because God made you in love. By God’s power and strength, neither any heavenly body nor any body on this earth will be overlooked or left behind from God’s care.

It is amazing, dear God, to contemplate your character – your power and might to hold all things of creation in careful balance, but also your loving care that will not overlook any part of what you have made. You declare creation to be good, and you also look for and want the best in me too. Today let me be grateful for watching over me. Keep me safe and keep my eyes fixed on you, to the glory of your name. Amen.
