Full reading – John 18:28-40
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
Reflection: Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” What truth did Jesus testify to?
Jesus was brought to Pilate for what would become a series of questioning prior to judgment and crucifixion. Jesus was aware of all the political and religious maneuverings in Jerusalem. Jesus responded with assured confidence, straight forward, honest and clear words of truth. The devil relies on falsehoods, deceit, fragmented stories, lies and deceit to win the minds of the lost. How he must delight in watching crowds roaring and chanting to convict good people to promote his agenda.
Lord Jesus you made the supreme sacrifice for all people of this world even those who are not always kind to you. I desire to have an everlasting life, free of the burdens of this world. I desire to be in a place where we are sharing in your glory, where all who believe will be gathered and blessed forever and ever. Amen
