Isaiah 40:9-11
You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm.
See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

When I was a child, my church that I grew up in had beautiful stained glass windows, my favorite being Jesus holding a lamb in his arms. This year it has more of a special meaning to me, as I am singing in the Messiah and I have a solo which is “He shall feed his flock”. How wonderful to feel that our Savior is our shepherd who cares for us and loves us no matter how far away we stray.

Gracious God, open our eyes and hearts to the mystery of your love, bringing us home in the safety of your arms. A king is born when we least expect it; heaven touches earth in the footsteps of our savior. We praise you in Christ our Lord. Amen.
