Hebrews 5:5-9

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

We sometimes forget the pain and humiliation that Jesus suffered in his lifetime. He also asked for something that it appears was not granted. We may feel that our prayers are denied or ignored when we or someone close to us is ill or dying and he does not recover. We need to remember that God has a plan that we don’t see or understand. Jesus wasn’t granted his request and neither are we. But something greater came out of his suffering, His resurrection. Our faith in Him is what saves us. We are saved by God’s Grace and Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

Please Lord, help us to remember in this time of Lent that Jesus’ sacrifice gives us the entrance into heaven. Sometimes we feel discouraged as I am sure Jesus did, but his grace saves us. Amen.
