In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
We know from Genesis that in the beginning was God. “And God said…..” All of creation was formed by the Word of God. And that what John says is true. What did the darkness not comprehend? What could it not overcome? It is the light of life. The life God has planned for all humankind. He gave that light to all the earth, and His own creation could not understand it. So from the very beginning, we wanted out own destiny, make our own decisions, decide what is right and what is wrong. The darkness doesn’t want us to be in the light, understand the light, or comprehend the light. But God never fails, His Light shines through the darkness, it illuminates the way we should go, it is the very life God has for us and is our hope against the darkness. Hope in God is what chases the darkness away. Hope that there is someone who loves us no matter what our circumstances. Hope there is a way out of the trap we’ve fallen into. Hope that we’ve “got a home beyond that yonder shore”. Hope in safety and security.
That hope, the light of God, the life of men, has been carried out throughout the ages from the time of Adam and Eve. That light has never been extinguished.
Father, thank you for your light that shines in all the corners of my life and makes the darkness shrink. I will not be afraid of the dark because You have given me Light. AMEN
