1 John 3:1-3

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

Sometimes as a child I pretended I to be a princess in disguise, and that my parents were merely taking care of me until my real parents came back to claim me. Silly, huh? God says we are his children because we trust in Jesus to forgive our sins, but we can’t know yet who we will become. Maybe the world can’t see that we belong to God because they don’t know who God is. But God knows who I am, and God claims me as his. And that’s enough for right now. What a magnificent day it will be when we see God face to face, and we will truly be just like Jesus!

Dear God, I confess I am not who you made me to be, nor who I will be some day. Forgive me when I take my eyes off you and act like I do not know you. Thank you for your abundant love, and help me grow by faith to become more like Jesus, to the glory of your name. Amen.
