Read Mark 1-3

Highlight: Mark 1:14-18

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.  “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”  At once they left their nets and followed him.

Jesus went alone into Galilee to spread the message of the good news. Jesus enlisted the help of others. Here, he called the first disciples, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew, to spread the word. Jesus continued to call more disciples. These disciples called on others. Even today, more are being called to continue to spread the word to the entire world. This includes you and me.

Oh, let me be a fisher of men like Peter and Andrew. Let me cast forth my nets and bring in people for the savior. Let my words and deeds be the cords and strings of the nets that bring in souls for Jesus.   In Jesus’ name. Amen
