Revelation 21:1-5

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

We are one chapter before the end of God’s word in the Bible. What an amazing journey it has been this past six months! We have read from almost every book, selections that have helped us see and understand God’s truth to us. Thanks for hanging in there every day, and seeking to grow in faith and love.

The vision we have is that the time of tribulation is past, judgment has been made complete, and now God presents the new heaven and the new earth, the new Jerusalem, holy and perfect, prepared as a bride for her husband. Imagine what it will be like to truly walk with God in every sense of the word. That we will converse with God and see God face to face, that we will be filled with joy and laughter and amazing living! Every tear will be gone, all the pain and death and horrors of sickness, pain and warfare. The old will pass away and the new is come.

This is a vision we need to keep before us when our days are hard and filled with stress and worry. What we see now will be gone. A brighter day is ahead if by faith we can perceive it. May we keep our eyes fixed on this future that will be ours, for God has promised it.

Everything begins and ends with you, O Lord. You usher in life and you offer us this promise of a new life that will be ours by faith in your son, Jesus Christ. We pray for all who suffer today; give us all hope that your vision of a new Jerusalem will someday come. Strengthen us in faith, in love and in service, that we may keep your truths and be a good witness to those in need. Hear all our prayers, for we offer them in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
