Zechariah 6:12-13
12 Tell him this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the Lord. 13 It is he who will build the temple of the Lord, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.
Jesus here is called the branch, yet in John’s gospel, chapter 15, Jesus calls himself the vine and we are the branches. We have to be connected to Jesus to be fruitful, and Jesus himself is connected to God. Jesus is our king, and he is also our priest who forgives us our sins. He is ruler of our lives and the one who restores us to wholeness, and yes, there is harmony between both those roles!

Draw us together in unity, Lord, one with you, and one with our fellow believers. Draw us together in a common hope for our world to be at peace, and a common desire to care for those in need, in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
